Zabbix 7.2: Explore the Potential
Zabbix LLC is announcing the release of the latest Zabbix major version - Zabbix 7.2. The release introduces new ways to visualize data and host information, while improving upon a variety of existing monitoring features and workflows. Continue reading for more details.
New ways to visualize, group and order data
With Zabbix 7.2, users can gain a comprehensive overview of their metrics thanks to the new Top Items widget, which takes the place of the Data Overview widget. Using item patterns enables a fine-grained selection of items, and it’s now possible to utilize bars, indicators, and sparklines to visualize data, while defining value thresholds to dynamically visualize the state of items.
NVIDIA GPU monitoring
Starting with Zabbix 7.2.1, users can deploy Zabbix agent 2 and automatically discover and start monitoring their Nvidia GPUs. Supported on Linux and Windows environments, it allows for the monitoring of metrics like GPU utilization, power usage, temperature, and more.
NETCONF monitoring of network devices
Thanks to Zabbix 7.2, it is now possible to invoke remote commands by using SSH subsystems, extending monitoring to subsystems such as NETCONF. SSH items now support a subsystem parameter, and users can monitor network devices which limit their monitoring to NETCONF.
Sparkline charts
Users can provide additional context for data by visualizing it in sparkline charts. These can be enabled in multiple Zabbix widgets and are supported by Top Hosts, Top Items, and Item Value widgets.
Display detailed host information on dashboards
It is now possible to use the Host card widget to display detailed information about hosts, including their status and resources. Zabbix 7.2 can display host problem counts, interface statuses, inventory data, and more. Users can customize field visibility and order while dynamically updating the displayed host by linking the Host card widget to Host navigator widgets.

Simplified automated Zabbix component deployment
With the ability to specify Zabbix configuration parameters in environmental variables, deploying Zabbix components via automation workflows or containers is now easier than ever. It is possible for users to streamline Zabbix component CI/CD workflows by passing environment variables to Zabbix configuration files, while simplifying Zabbix container deployments by utilizing environment variables.
It is also now possible to improve configuration workflows, enrich alerts with new and updated built-in macros, provide event Unix timestamps with new {*TIMESTAMP} macros, and refer individual function results in expression macros with {FUNCTION.VALUE} macros.
VMware monitoring improvements
Users can get the most out of Zabbix VMware monitoring features with the latest set of VMware data collection features, which includes the ability to simplify VMware monitoring workflows with a stand-alone VMware hypervisor template, monitor Hypervisor maintenance mode, and resolve issues with VMware event collection stability.
Additional improvements
The 7.2 release also adds many other major improvements, such as additional support for CP_SPIN cpu state on OpenBSD, new column configuration options in the Top Hosts widget, support for a binary item display, and much more.
