Miguel Ángel Acosta, Chief of the Computing Systems Department at the Technological Institute in Iztapalapa and the professor responsible for the project, considers the initiative essential for the academic and professional development of students. "We have participation from students from the entire central zone of the country, south and southeast, from Chiapas, Guerrero, Quintana Roo, Oaxaca, Puebla, State of Mexico, and Mexico City," Acosta comments.

The hackathon projects used Zabbix to address issues across 4 different verticals, with two related to data visualization and cybersecurity, one specific to supporting the biodigester system of the Technological Institute of Iztapalapa, and the last related to applications in local Mexican companies.

"Open-source technologies offer professional development alternatives for our talent and even the possibility of generating new leaders in technological innovation" said Manuel Haro, president of the DEDICA Foundation and organizer of the event. In addition to mentorships for project development, participants attended lectures focused on technology, business models, and Zabbix functionalities.

Since the beginning of Zabbix's operations in Mexico, the company has been offering educational scholarships to students from various regions of the country as part of the cooperation agreement signed with the DEDICA Foundation in March 2023.

The theme is one of the objectives for the company with operations in the region. "Education is a fundamental part of the collaborative culture we support for the democratization of technology, and sponsoring projects like this is an important movement for us,” says Luciano Alves, CEO of Zabbix in Latin America. “It is rewarding to see the students' progress in such a short time and realize that our cooperation will yield more fruit in the future."

In total, the Zabbix Innova Challenge awarded over 70 educational scholarships for the 3 best projects selected in each of the 4 verticals, including complete Zabbix Certified User, Zabbix Certified Specialist, and Zabbix Certified Professional training sessions.
