Zabbix Conference 2012 Agenda

The talk will be about current state of Zabbix, progress we made and future plans. I will also give an overview of future Zabbix timeline and provide as much details as possible about Zabbix 2.2 roadmap.

We all know that Zabbix is great for monitoring systems and environments, but how can you apply that data to squeeze out more performance? This talk will cover the methodologies behind performance tuning including queuing theory, and some best practices. This talk is intended for intermediate level systems administrators.

Recently the opportunities of using cloud services (AWS, Rackspace,...) have grown. I think that the environments which are managed both by cloud services and on-premises should be integrated. So, I focused on the flexibility of Zabbix, I developed an integrated management system using Zabbix. This system achieved multi environment management and monitoring by cooperation of Zabbix and cloud abstraction API (DeltaCloud[Redhat OSS],libcloud[Apache PJ]). At this presentation, I will talk about a part of this activity.

You might have wondered "how did they not notice this", or "why don't they fix this". Or maybe "who thought _that_ is intuitive?!!!". Or maybe you have wondered how would it be to join the Zabbix team in Riga. In this talk we'll mix technical procedures, specifications, personalities, office culture (or lack of it) to produce the sauce that makes those bits stand in straight (or sometimes jagged) lines and result in The Z.

Zabbix is very good to monitor almost any network. We started to use Zabbix a long time ago and we found that it has big advantages. We started with a small server and tiny setup and now we have a huge monitoring scenario. There are many maps and screens, where we monitor almost every network device. In addition to this, we use the ObnovaNG system connected to Zabbix where we can control lab PCs. In my presentation I will tell about experiences using Zabbix in university campus that could be interesting for other campus network admins. I will also try to explain some other projects we are working on, which use Zabbix.

We use Zabbix for our customers in safety critical environments. This requires an HA (high availability) setup. There are different ways of ensuring that a single fault doesn’t make your monitoring system “blind”. This talk will present both the usual way of using clustering and also the “Zabbix” way of using distributed monitoring.
