Declarative and distributed interface for scheduling collection tasks
Describes an architecture that provides a declarative interface to schedule arbitrary collection workloads against a distributed Zabbix environment. Under normal operation, Zabbix makes strong associations between host and items. Each agent normally collects items in relation to its host. In our architecture we subvert this association, empowering Zabbix agents with the ability to register/release work which may have no relation to its underlining host. This architecture forms a collection network, which we use to gain additional visibility into the health of our production grade networks. Deployed in the Cloud. Augments and/or replaces monitoring platforms like Catchpoint.

Zabbix has a lot of very nice features to monitor your IT infrastructure. However, when your Zabbix setup starts to grow in the number of templates and hosts, it can quickly become tedious to maintain. In this talk Raymond Kuiper will explain how Netco Technology achieved to deploy and manage a dozen Zabbix installations with minimal manual intervention.
As an IT Infrastructure Specialist with a strong focus on monitoring, networks and operations, Raymond started using Zabbix 1.1.3 in 2006 when the company he was working for needed a flexible, integrated solution to monitor servers, network availability and performance. Over the years Raymond has become a keen supporter of Zabbix and has introduced the tool to various organizations and administrators. He also likes to hang out in Zabbix on Freenode to help out other Zabbix users.
From 10 standalone Zabbix platforms to a major one in the cloud
A few years before, we used to deploy multiple independent Zabbix Servers ( + DB and Frontends ), for each new Cloud platforms we deployed worldwide. We soon met limitations, both in term of performance, flexibility, so we decided to rethink our monitoring tools and even reconsidered our use of Zabbix. Finally, we decided to try our best to build a resilient and performance proof platform using our own cloud, a better configuration of Zabbix as well as an architecture using the Zabbix Proxies… And more ! Being very satisfied with the results, we would like to tell the story of this evolution and share with the community.
