The speech is about a real world example of using Zabbix in safety critical environments like air traffic control and public safety.

I will share my experience of doing performance tuning for customer systems of any size. Speed of Zabbix operations has a number of common bottlenecks. I will tell how to identify those, also give you a clear step by step instructions and number of methods for bringing Zabbix performance to a much higher level. No, it is not about throwing money into new hardware!

You're on a server trying to debug a performance issue, but all you have access to at the moment is a console, how do you view or alter Zabbix? Enter Zabcon, the Zabbix Console. Zabcon is designed to provide a console interface to Zabbix using the API. This talk will discuss how to install and use Zabcon to pull data and alter monitoring parameters.

While Zabbix is suitable for very large deployments, many organisations use it for relatively small deployments. The steep learning curve of Zabbix doesn't always make it viable for these small organisations though, as a result of which they often lack completeness. This talk explores the technical implications of running Zabbix in a SaaS way, with active agents reporting live over the internet. We'll tell you about the advantages and drawbacks we face at Tribily (http://tribily.com) and the constraints we gave ourselves to make this possible. All of the technology is open source, so if you're interested you can use it for your own deployments.

Using Zabbix in a SaaS environment has some unique challenges. While many system administrators are perfectly comfortable with manually performing functions in Zabbix, the SaaS administrator has to find ways to automate as much as possible. This presentation will show how we have overcome some of these challenges: using Puppet for agent and proxy installation; group naming tricks for template re-use; how to get Zabbix to call your phone; monitoring for Zabbix failure; and more. The presentation will also identify challenges that we think Zabbix needs to overcome to be the best choice for monitoring in a SaaS environment.

Zabbix has a number of big user communities and many of them participate in reporting bugs and proposing fixes. This presentation illustrates Zabbix bug reporting and patch posting flow, to encourage even novice users to participate. It also explains how these processes contribute to a nice ecological system for users and developers.

You've already passed the Zabbix learning curve during the PoC so Zabbix feels like a breeze for you, but your co-workers are having quite some trouble grasping the concepts and you don't have time to sit by each and everyone of them to explain it all in great depth. After all, duty calls! In this talk we'll discuss how you can efficiently solve this problem. Please have your laptop handy with a recent versions of VirtualBox installed as this talk will have an interactive part as well.

This talk will show you a real-world example of using the Zabbix API inside a Drupal module to control Zabbix from Drupal. It will show you the basic workings of the php API wrapper as well as the basic working of a Drupal module and how to combine the two to make Zabbix administration a lot more easy. The module that we explain in this talk is an open source project and if you like it, you're welcome to contribute!

We all know Zabbix rocks, but can we make it Rock and Roll? With Lua in the mix you can come a long ways towards that goal. Lua is a lightweight scripting language designed to be embedded into other programs, the Lua plugin for Zabbix does just this and provides a new item type, the Lua script. With Lua scripts inside Zabbix it is possible to run complex equations, including branching, based on your monitored data points.

While Zabbix is a great monitoring system on its own, scaling it to handle 50,000+ hosts located in multiple data centers around the world while retaining high availability and elasticity can be difficult. This talk will focus on the challenges of bringing in Zabbix to the Enterprise and the ecosystem that was built around it to integrate with various Firm systems (Configuration data, Alerting, Reporting) to provide a flexible, highly available monitoring services for not just hosts, but middleware and applications as well.

6 years ago, "Zabbix" term didn't exist as a result of Google search in Japan. Now, Zabbix has became famous and de facto standard of OSS monitoring software in Japan since I created ZABBIX-JP which is the Zabbix local community. I will talk about Zabbix history in Japan and what are the important things for local community.

Most installations of Zabbix monitor servers, switches, maybe a few UPS devices. Boring. After two days of serious monitoring topics, let's push it all aside and let's look at the alternative uses of Zabbix.
